Semen Mortar Lv. 1
Mortar is a mixture of cement, water, and sand. However, some argue that mortar is a cement-based building material used as an “adhesive” to construct building structures. The difference between mortar and cement is that mortar is essentially ready-to-use cement, whose components generally include cement itself, filler, and various types of suitable additives. Therefore, mortar can also be referred to as ready-to-use instant cement—just add water, mix, and it is ready for use.
PROPERTIES OF MORTAR MIXES:
- Strength: The mortar mix must be strong enough to support the load carried by the wall.
- Workability: The mortar should be easy to work with, neither too wet (runny) nor too dry.
- Shrinkage: Mortar with excessive water content is prone to shrinkage, leading to cracks in plaster or walls.
Types of Mortar Mix Compositions:
- Cement, lime, and sand mix
- Cement and sand mix
- Lime, tras (natural or artificial), and sand mix
- Pozzolan or natural tras and lime mix
